Girl with a Pearl Earring Pocket Square
Johannes Vermeer, 1632 – 1675, Girl with a Pearl Earring, c.1665
- 100% Silk
- Hand Rolled
- Designed and Printed in Britain
- 42cm x 42cm
The Girl with a Pearl Earring painting is by the Dutch Golden Age painter Johannes Vermeer and is considered one of the most beautiful and most recognised paintings in the world. After the restoration of the painting in 1994, the subtle colour scheme, as well as the intimacy of the Girl's gaze, have been greatly enhanced. It was also discovered at this time that the dark background we see today was originally a deep enamel-like green.
The striking colours of her turban and her clothes contrast with both the darker background and her pale skin, her bright blue turban accentuating her face. She's looking directly at the viewer and looks as if she is about to say something. With this painting, Vermeer truly showed that he mastered the use of lights, shown throughout the shining pearl, the clothing and the subtlety of her face.
